Here I am on top of the Harding Ice Field in Seward, Alaska. This trail is at the entrance to the Exit Glacier and is one of the best hikes in Alaska. Pushing to the top with Rita and the kids was challenging. Once on top the views were Awesome and the sense of Accomplishment provided me with the energy to hike back down.
Luckily it was a great day and we started out at about 2:00 P.M. We climed over 3500 vertical feet over 4 miles and at the end we treked thru alot of snow. We stay on top for about a 1/2 hour and let the boys slid down the glacier drifts and then began our descent which was kinda scary. We were the last people on top until we met some Europeans heading up at like 6:00 P.M.
We finally arrived at the truck around 10:30 P.M. hungery and tired. We quickly hit the Safeway in town and had a promptu cookout on the back of the truck bed. What a great day. I heard a guy say it was the best hike in Alaska and I would have to agree. Hopefully Mt. Mckinley maybe in the near future.
